There was a meta-analysis review study that revealed that cannabis users had a significantly lower BMI, (Body Mass Index) and obesity rates but they had an increase in calorie intake. This study gives a lot of insight on smoking weed when it comes to weight loss vs weight gain.

Studies have shown that cannabis consumption can improve symptoms of pain, stiffness, and mobility issues.

An interesting study came about not long ago that the states that legalized cannabis saw a huge increase in the sales of junk food like cookies, chips, ice-cream, etc. I think what it is important to understand about this study is just because there was an increase in junk food in those legalized marijuana states doesn’t mean you can link it to more marijuana use. That is a little bit of a stretch to point it that, but it is an interesting study to look at though.

The THC in weed, which is a psychoactive compound, has been shown in studies to trigger hunger. Some people use cannabis as an appetite stimulant if they don’t have much of an appetite.

Some studies have shown that since weed smokers inhale more deeply and hold the smoke longer they take in more tar per breath than regular smokers. You can suffer the same unhealthy causes that regular smoking gives you if you smoke weed regularly.

If you smoke weed over an extended period, it can damage your lungs, airways, reduce your respiratory function and potentially cause chronic bronchitis.

The Bottom Line is smoking weed will not make you lose weight. In fact, THC in weed has been shown in many people to stimulate your appetite and make you eat more food. So, cannabis smoking isn’t linked to weight loss whatsoever. But cannabis in non-smoking methods has some health benefits.
