What are the causes of frequent urination? Some of the most common causes of frequent urination are UTIs, Diabetes, enlarged prostates, medical diuretic pills, etc. You are more than likely to have frequent urination problems if you are over the age of 70, pregnant or have an enlarged prostate gland.
Most people pee on average about 7 to 8 times a day and if you are someone that is peeing more than 30 minutes a day than that is a potential problem.
What does UTI stand for and what is it? UTI stands for urinary tract infection, and it is one of the more common causes of frequent urination. A UTI can affect your Kidneys, Urethra and Urinary bladder.
Frequent urination is common for a woman that is pregnant. They must pee more often in the first and third trimester. But it is less common in the second trimester. A common symptom of Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes is frequent urination. When your body can’t use insulin to break down sugar it makes you pee to get rid of it.
If you have an enlarged prostate, it will cause you to pee more because it can put pressure on your urinary system which will cause you to urinate more.
How do you know if you are urinating too much?
- If you pee more than 8 times a day
- You wake up more than two times to pee.
- The number of times you pee bothers you.
The best way to track how often you pee is to document that in a diary or notebook. If you feel based off your documentation you are peeing too much then it is advisable to check with your medical provider.
Some of the medical tests they will have you do:
- A urinalysis to check if you have UTI’s.
- Cystoscopy to check inside your bladder.
Some of the risks of not treating frequent urination is an infection that can spread throughout the body that can potentially cause life-threatening complications.
Some of those serious complications are dehydration, infections that are spread throughout the body, and high blood glucose in unmanaged diabetes.
If you are peeing a lot and have some of the following symptoms then you may need to check with your medical provider:
