How much is 25 to 30 grams of protein? 25 to 30 grams of protein is considered the standard amount of recommended per meal for protein for building and maintaining lean muscle while keeping you full.
This amount will help with the following: As it will help to keep satiety for 3 to 4 hours; It will give you the energy to digest more carbs and fats; And helps to trigger the body to build and repair lean muscle mass tissue.
This is an example of what 25 to 30 grams of protein looks like foods:
- 3 ounces of Chicken Breast
- 4 Large Whole Eggs
- 7 Large Egg Whites
- Salmon- 4 ounces
- 1 scoop of Whey Protein Powder
- 1 cup of an 8 ounces of Greek Yogurt
- 4 ounces of Lean Beef
- 1 cup of 2% Cottage Cheese
How Much Protein Do You Need Minimally?
According to the CDC a woman that exercises less than 30 minutes a day should consume 46 grams of protein daily and 56 grams a day for men. That comes out to .36 grams of protein per pound per bodyweight which I believe is fairly low for someone who is consistently physically active.
According to the Academy Of Nutrition and Dietetics a power athlete should consume .54 to .77 grams per pound of bodyweight a day. Endurance athletes should consume .54 to .66 grams per bodyweight a day.
The Food and Nutrition Board Of the Institute Of Medicine And the American College Of Sports Of Medicine recommend 1.2 to 1.7 grams of protein per Kilogram of bodyweight per day. A Kilogram is equal to 2.2lbs.
And this formula is for active people so a good example for this formula is the following:
- 100 pounds- 54 to 77 grams per day
- 150 pounds- 82 to 116 grams per day
- 200 pounds- 109 to 155 grams per day
- 250 pounds- 136 to 192 grams per day
The types of protein foods you can eat are eggs, nuts, seeds, chicken, turkey, fish, pork, beef, steak, milk, Greek yogurt, yogurt, cheese, etc.
Research studies show that consuming about 20 grams of protein right after exercising is enough to support muscle repair and recovery. And higher amounts, that over 40 grams of protein don’t provide any additional benefit whatsoever.
The Bottom Line is 25 to 30 grams of protein is considered the standard recommended amount per meal for building and maintaining lean muscle mass while keeping you full.
