Why do I pee so often? There are so many different variables that influence frequent urination. One of them being increased fluid intake, prescription medications, caffeine or alcohol, pregnancy and or aged related changes. Peeing often isn’t necessarily a terrible thing it means your kidneys are working well.

Most people pee on an average of 7 to 8 times a day. If you are a pregnant woman, it is common to pee frequently during your first and third trimester.

Diabetes

Frequent urination is a common symptom of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. When your body has a problem using insulin to break down sugar it makes more urine and forces to get rid of it. So, the result of this is a higher volume of urine which forces you to pee more.

Enlarged Prostate

Having an enlarged prostate, especially when you are over the age of 50 can cause frequent peeing. An enlarged prostate puts pressure on your urinary system causing you to urinate more.

Neurological Disorders

If you have neurological disorders that can cause nervous system and bladder issues which can cause you to pee more than normal. Some of those neurological disorders are stroke, spinal cord injuries, Fibromyalgia, etc.

Common Medications

Some of the most common medications that can cause frequent urination are:

  • Calcium Channel blockers
  • Diuretics
  • Antihistamines
  • Lithium
  • Antidepressant drugs

If you are peeing a lot and have the following symptoms:

  • such as blood in your urine,
  • vomiting
  • nausea,
  • signs of infection such as fever or chills,
  • penile discharge

You should contact your medical provider immediately if you have any of these symptoms along with frequent urination and get yourself checked out.

Some of the complications of not treating unusual frequent urination is dehydration and infections that can spread all over the body. It is important to know that UTI’s, Urinary Tract Infections are the most common cause of frequent urination.
