Some of the first symptoms that come about from sepsis is the cold or flu. And other symptoms are shortness of breath, elevated heart rate, extreme pain, pale and clammy skin, etc.
Sepsis is more common than people think. According to the CDC there are about 1.5 million people that get sepsis every year. And one in 3 people who die in the hospital come from sepsis. Most people get it after experiencing phenomena from lung infection.
People that have a weakened immune system are more susceptible to obtaining sepsis. And those individuals who are older adults, children or any person that has a chronic medical condition are at more risk of contracting sepsis.
The definition of sepsis is an extreme inflammatory reaction to an ongoing infection. The result of this is it causes the immune system to attack issues or organs in the body. If any type of sepsis is left untreated it can lead to organ failure or death.
The Bottom Line is sepsis isn’t contagious, but it is caused by an inflammatory reaction to an infection. And if its left untreated it can cause organ failure and up to death.
