Everybody’s path to success is different and at some point in time in your life you will have pay dues to obtain success and in the fitness industry some people have to pay more dues than others. When I first started in the fitness industry and nobody know who I was; I would pay photographers as much as $1500 to do shoots with them so I can get great images for my portfolio and for editors to take notice to me in the fitness industry. There was no Trade For Prints for me my first year I had to come out the pocket and I would pay at least over $5000 in photo-shoots just to get myself out there as a fitness model my first year.

When I got these great photos I started submitting them specifically to many fitness magazines in the U.S. The first magazine that my images were submitted to the editor said in an email to a photographer’s assistant that submitted the photos. “Sorry we can put him in the magazine we don’t put black guys on our covers.” I couldn’t believe it in 2008 that an editor of a major fitness magazine could say this. The images got submitted to more magazines and some of the stuff I heard was the following: “Black covers don’t sell and the last time we tried it didn’t do well”, “You look great but we put a black guy on our cover recently and we are going to have wait some considerable time to give you a chance on a cover since we had a black model already” “You look great but don’t take it personally we rarely put black fitness models on our covers who knows maybe things might change in the near future”.

When I was hearing these things from some of the biggest decision makers in the fitness industry I was thinking to myself I have no chance of succeeding in this fitness industry. How can I succeed in this industry having to deal with this discriminatory B.S? There were times when I wanted to quit and was very close in doing this because I didn’t think it was possible for an African-American male fitness model to succeed in an industry where so many decision makers were not for giving black male fitness models opportunities and chances on a fitness magazine covers.

I thought to myself I am really going to have to think outside the box in regards to making this industry work for me or don’t have a prayer at all. I was intelligent enough to know that this wasn’t right and nobody should have to deal with this type of discriminatory stuff but that is the fitness industry and you have to figure out and make it work for your respective ethnic look unfortunately. So I thought of trying to venture off on opportunities magazine opportunities internationally which was the best thing for me at that particular time because most international countries in my opinion are just not caught up on the whole race thing like the U.S magazines are.

I thought maybe I can really build a big name internationally and maybe those U.S mags that turned me down could be more open-minded after I built up my name in other countries and give me a chance. So I travelled overseas on my own dime for about a year for exposure purposes just to build up my name, value, worth and credibility. I spent a lot of money doing that I have to be honest but it was an investment in my fitness career and one of those dues I had to pay if I was going to succeed.

I believe that this outside the box theory really worked for me and it’s not for everyone but for me I had to go outside the box or I would never have succeeded in this industry. In many ways I felt that I was forced to go international to make a name there because I wasn’t given a chance by many mags in the U.S. when I first started out. My first 18 months in the industry I never really made any money. I spent more money during that time period then but all that paid dues stuff, sleepless nights, countless self-marketing posts lead to the following incredible things in my career: over 30 fitness magazine magazine covers over the past 3 years, arguably the most published male fitness model internationally since 2009 and in 2010 landing arugably the biggest supplement contract for a fitness model in the fitness industry as well as so many incredible things.

Some of the dues I paid:

  • Paid photographers $1500 for shoots for about a year to prove myself
  • Flew out internationally out of my own pocket to different countries just for exposure purposes to create a name for myself.
  • Had to deal with discriminatory responses from many decision makers trying to get into a fitness magazine or on a cover.

For the record I’ve built up my name, value, worth and credibility in the industry where I don’t have to pay for photographers for photo-shoots anymore and I am not flying myself out to different countries anymore. It is the opposite they are now flying me out now for appearances but I had to pay some serious financial dues to get to that point. The moral of these paying dues in the industry article is not to brag about what I’ve done in the industry but to encourage you if you want something bad enough you have to go chase it and nothing will be dropped in your lap. And you may have to pay some dues to get there.

By sharing with you some of the stuff I went through very few people would have ever expected that anybody could come out of those circumstances and be very successful. Most people would have given up and rightfully so but if I can attain the success I have presently in this industry with the discriminatory stuff I dealt with then you have no excuse to not be successful in this industry. If you want it bad enough and are willing to go the extra mile it will happen for you. We all got to pay dues in this industry I can definitely tell you I paid mine.

Check out WBFF World Champion Obi Obadike and Muscle-Pharm sponsored athlete’s article on what the WBFF can do for you.

Everybody wants to compete in an organization that goes above and beyond for the athlete? If you are competing in an organization you need to ask yourself what is that organization doing for you? What is the difference between the WBFF and the other fitness organizations out there is simply this? The WBFF is constantly promoting their athletes every single day via the social networking sites. Another thing is they are going above and beyond to create opportunities for their athletes like supplement contracts, covers, features and internet exposure. If you count and add all the covers, supplements contracts, features and global internet exposure over the past 3 years that the WBFF has done for its athletes there is no fitness organization in this industry that compares in terms of what they’ve done for their competitors.

Are their organizations that have more athletes? Yes there are but are there fitness organizations that do more for their athletes? Absolutely not! The athletes that you constantly see in the magazines internationally and domestically and the people that are talked about on the internet constantly are in the WBFF. Do you think you have a great physique or are that are you ripped? Well step up on the WBFF stage and compare yourself against the best of the best.

Do you want to get on a cover? Well compete in the WBFF! Do you want to be featured in a magazine? Well compete in the WBFF! Do you want to land a supplement contract? Well compete with the WBFF! Do you want global exposure? Well compete with the WBFF. Do you want compete against the best fitness model physiques in the world? Well compete with the WBFF! Do you want to enhance and increase your personal-training business? Well then compete with the WBFF. It is the fastest fitness organization in the world and it is only getting bigger and better.

The athletes and competitors are getting better every year making each World Championship event bigger than the year before. So when you are deciding what fitness organization you want to compete in ask yourself this question what is the organization going to do for you and your career.  Is the organization all about making a buck or are they actively creating opportunities for athletes? If they are that is the organization you want to compete in and I can guarantee you that organization will most likely end up being the WBFF. So if it is then register at www.wbffshows.com and I hope to see you on a WBFF stage.

WBFF World Champion and MusclePharm sponsored athlete Obi Obadike writes an article below on how to quantify a top fitness model.

TopFitnessModelObiObadikeWritesArticleOnHowToQuantifyATopFitnessModel

How do quantify a top fitness model and what are those attributes that culminates into a top fitness model? Well there are many things that are considered in being a top fitness model. Here are some of the following: Covers, features, internet presence and social networking presence, endorsement contracts, contributions to the industry that helps others in other words the impact you make to serve and influence others in a positive way.

I had this discussion with many friends about what makes a fitness model into a top model or into one of the premier models or even the top fitness model in the industry. I think for some strange reason people believe that if you have done more covers than the next person that you are better than the other. Well its more than just covers the reason being is because it is very easy to forget someone on a cover of a magazine because there is no identification with that person to the readers other than your name on the inside of the magazine.

You actually have more exposure featured in the magazine with a story about you or you writing a training article that you are featured in. Or you have more exposure in a social networking environment mirroring the time on the stands of a magazine issue. With that being said being a top fitness model is more than just being on covers and just because you were on 11, 12, 15 or even 20 in a year doesn’t mean that you are the top fitness model in the industry or even one of the top fitness models. How do you honestly quantify that? These are things that I came up with after having conversations with many important top fitness professionals in the industry.

To Be Considered One Of The Premier Top Fitness Models In The Industry

  • Consistent internet and social networking presence and following.
  • Service and contributions to helping others as role model through your name in the fitness industry through fitness articles, personal-training, fitness tips, helping to impact another person’s another life in a positive way.
  • Endorsement supplement contracts. Example: Small contract- supplements only to 500 to 1500 a month; Medium contract- $2000 a month to $4500 a month; Large contract- $5000 a month up to 10,000 or more a month. Super large contracts- percentage from the overall gross sales of the product. Examples: specifically fitness equipment products when it comes to this.
  • Being flown out to events for Personal and Public Appearances domestically and internationally as a fitness personality.
  • Notoriety and presence globally in different countries

Before social networking came alive it was just covers and features that would dictate a top fitness model but now with social networking like twitter and face-book that has to be considered in the mix now. The reason being is I’ve seen many fitness models in the industry that have never landed a cover but they are on face-book and twitter all the time and have created such a huge following that they have a bigger name in the industry globally than someone that landed 10 magazines covers or more. That is why your internet and social networking presence has to be considered in the mix when quantifying if you are a top fitness model. The impact you make in servicing others has to always be looked at because that is really how you maintain that following and fan-base by responding and helping people when you can. For crying out loud supplement companies look at your social numbers to determine if they want to sponsor you in fact those social numbers are more important than any magazine cover you’ve ever landed in my opinion. I would honestly say more because internet is powerful than print right now at the moment.

Nobody ever likes to talk about this because money isn’t everything and it is never fun talking about how much money you make. The size of your contract dictates how marketable you are to that particular supplement company or product and the size of your contract will pretty much tell you how important you are to that company and how they view you in the hierarchy of that supplement company.

This is for the aspiring fitness models that email me all the time you can really count on a finger or two of fitness models that can make a living off of their name. The very few ones that are able are very business savvy and were able to either create a product and sell it others for a business or they were able to land a large to super large endorsement contract that allowed them to make enough money to live comfortably. A great fitness model who is the perfect example of doing this is Micah LaCerte who created Hitch Fit which is one of the biggest personal-training companies in Kansas City. He used his exposure in the fitness industry and he created a very successful business.

I know that every aspiring fitness model and most fitness models are all about chasing covers and it is exciting to grace a cover as I love it too but being a top fitness model is more than just gracing magazine covers as I’ve alluded to in this article. And also if you land more magazine covers more than the next person that necessarily doesn’t make you a bigger or a better model than the next model. Example: I’ve done 12 magazine covers last year or I did 11 last year which is more than the next model who did 7 or 6 or 5 that doesn’t mean that you are better than that model or even have a bigger name.

Sometimes when you see models on covers of magazines it isn’t necessarily what the fans want it is the decision of that editor and publisher that chooses who gets to be on that cover of that magazine. All those fitness models that have been on many covers I am here to tell you that it is everything and just look at those bulleted points I gave. If you are trying to land a big contract and you think it is just landing magazine covers only then you will never land that large contract category. All of these bulleted points you need to be able to attain to be in a position to ask for a large contract.  I know many fitness models that have landed some of the biggest magazine covers in the industry and are still looking for that endorsement contract or that big one.  The supplement companies and fitness equipment companies look at all of these things I mentioned above when sponsoring a top fitness model and when deciding to give out those big dollars to a big name fitness model.

What is a top 10 model? It is half of these things bulleted points. What is a top five model? It is ¾’s of these bulleted points. What is a top three model? It is all of these collective bulleted points above including being in that large supplement contract category. If you don’t have a big enough name in the industry to pay the bills it is very hard to put yourself in that top three fitness model category honestly speaking. The moral of this article is for all fitness models to understand that you want to be as well rounded as you can that will make you as marketable as you can to hopefully help you land a small to medium to large contract supplement contract or just contract period.  By the way age is not a crutch in obtaining a supplement contract. There is no age limit in having a fan base and following and that is what supplemnt companies are looking for is that following.  But if you are not well rounded then it is hard to be viewed in the industry as a top premier fitness model. I hope this article sheds light on the quantification of a top fitness model.

QuarterTurns of the 2009 WBFF Male Fitness Model Division

Top Fitness Model Obi Obadike Wins The 2010 WBFF World Title

Why should you compete with the WBFF? Well because the WBFF is the best fitness organization in the world. It is the only fitness organization that can turn people that nobody has ever heard of into stars over one night in a WBFF World Championship event. It is has been done many times over the past couple of years. Do you want more exposure as a fitness model? Well the WBFF can help with that as they have relationships with the following magazines such as Inside Fitness, Status, Maximum Fitness, Reps, Musclemag, Oxygen, American Curves as well as many other magazines. Do you want a supplement contract? Well the WBFF can help you with that as well. In 2010 after the WBFF World Championship there were over 5 WBFF Pro athletes that landed supplement contracts that came from a direct result of competing in a WBFF show.

What does a WBFF Pro mean? Well being a WBFF Pro puts you in an elite class in this fitness industry as a pro athlete. You have the benefit of being promoted by the marketing vehicles of the WBFF whether it is via face-book, twitter, WBFF blog site, Fit and Firm magazine exposure, etc. Being promoted by the WBFF will help elevate your brand globally and will give you global exposure and a global name in the fitness industry. There is no fitness organization out there that has helped produce so many covers and supplement contracts to athletes over the past 3 years.

There is no fitness organization out there that consistently promotes their athletes every day via social networking to help the athletes get the exposure they deserve. The only organization that does all this is the WBFF. Going to a WBFF show is like going to a fitness expo because there are so many decision makers from so many supplement companies and fitness magazines that if you network right you could meet the right person that can help your fitness career.

If you are an aspiring fitness model that hasn’t quite landed their opportunity in this industry the WBFF is for you. If you are a top fitness model that hasn’t landed a supplement contract but has been on many covers the WBFF is for you. The WBFF can help that top fitness model that has been on many covers to land a paid supplement contract.

The prize money for this 2011 WBFF World Championship will be the biggest and will set a historical record in the fitness industry. The WBFF is the best of the best without a doubt and you may see some organizations that have tried to steal that tag name or have already done that but the athletes still have to represent that tag name and the WBFF athletes without a doubt do.

If you want to start a fitness career or elevate your fitness career then the WBFF is the organization for you to help you get there. You just stepping on a WBFF stage with those bright lights will elevate your brand even if you don’t win the show or place. You can still land a cover or a contract even if you don’t win or place high that is why the WBFF sets itself part from all those other organizations out there. I hope to see every one of you on a WBFF stage at any of the U.S shows we have this year or the WBFF World’s on Aug 27th. See ya on a WBFF stage and register now at www.wbffshows.com

Top Fitness model Obi Obadike's Blog on Understanding Body-fat

Top Fitness Model Obi Obadike's Blog on Understanding The Truths and Myths About Body-fat

There are always truths and myths about so many things in life but for some reason how low or how high your body-fat seems to confuse so many people especially on what is healthy or not healthy for a male for female. Before you can understand you have to also understand what is essential fat and what is it used for.

What is essential fat? Essential fat is so important for energy storage, protection of internal organs and protective insulation against heat loss. Essential fat is found in the brain, nerves, bone marrow, liver, heart and in all other glands and organs of the body. Essential fat is necessary to live so it is impossible for any male to be under 2 to 3 percent body-fat because of the essential fat that are in places internally in your body. That fat can never go away and it is needed for you breathe and live. Essential fat for a male is 2 to 3 percent body-fat to be able to live. It is not realistic and it is impossible for any male to be under 2 to 3 percent body-fat all year round. Typically all guys even my self have to diet down to 2 to 3 percent body-fat whether it is for a bodybuilding/fitness modeling competition or photo-shoot. I use myself as an example my body-fat is typically 4 to 5 percent all year round and then I diet down to 2 to 3 percent for photo-shoots and competitions. The main reason why I can keep my body-fat so low all year round is because of the minimal amount of calories I consume a day and because of how I train.

It is impossible for a woman to have a body-fat under 7 percent because of the essential fat that is needed for a woman to live which is 7 to 8 percent. If there is a woman that says my body-fat was under 7 percent for a figure or fitness modeling competition she doesn’t know what she is talking about. If there is a guy that says my body-fat was under 2 percent for a recent bodybuilding competition or photo-shoot then he don’t know what he is talking about. If a male or female gives that body-fat number and it is true they would honestly be dead.

Typically essential fat is found in women in the breast tissues and uterus. Women that try to maintain their body-fat at 10 percent and under all year round are susceptible to estrogen production issues, menstrual cycle issues and many disruptive reproductive system issues. Getting lean for a competition or photo shoot is one thing but for a woman trying to maintain this conditioning for a prolonged period of time can lead to some serious health problems. Women particularly have to be very very careful when getting their body-fat to these razor lean levels of 10 percent and under for long periods of time.

What is too much body-fat? Any body-fat for a male and female that is 35 percent or over is considered clinically obese and you put yourself in a very dangerous unhealthy position that can lead to many health problems such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. This is just a blog on understanding how low of a body-fat you can go under and how high is too much and understanding why we need fat and what is essential fat and how it is used.

Top Fitness Model & MusclePharm Sponsored Athlete

Top Fitness Model & WBFF World Champion/MusclePharm Sponsored Athlete Obi Obadike's Blog On Fitness Modeing

How bad do you want to be successful in this fitness industry? There are many people who want to grace a cover of a fitness magazine or want to be in a fitness magazine but very few are willing to do what is necessary to be a successful fitness model. In the beginning when I started my career and nobody really know who I was I willing to come out the pocket to create a name for myself in the industry. I remember really early in my career when I started dropping $1,200 to $1,500 at times for photo-shoots with some of the great photographers in the indsury because I knew that I needed to acquire the best photos that would make the decision makers take notice to me. I saw it as an investment in my fitness career and I was willing to do anything to be successful in this industry.

I gave myself a 2 year window when I first entered this industry to try to see if I can accomplish some goals of mine where I can actually make this into a full-time career if it was even possible. Was there bumps on the road? Yes there were many bumps on the road and I developed some scars from it. I went through a lot of racial discrimination to be where I am in this fitness industry.

The racial discrimination I went through had me doubt myself if I could be a successful fitness model in this industry. I had questions that I would pose to myself periodically. Could I have the same opportunities as someone that is not of my color? What magazines are open to giving me an opportunity? Can I make a living doing this? Is there a place for me in this industry? Are there opportunities outside the U.S. for me? There were times that I wanted to quit and was very close to doing so because I didn’t think I had tough enough skin to deal with the of discrimination issues that are out there.

I had to figure out the fitness industry and make it work for my respective look.  I ask you how bad do you want to succeed in this fitness industry? I will give you an example of how bad I wanted it.  I was willing to fly to a different country on my own dime just for exposure purposes and develop a brand in another country and by the way I’ve done that. To be successful in this industry you are going to have do a lot of stuff for free until you develop a brand big enough where you have value and you are in a position to negotiate a paid monetary contract.

Figure out how you want to brand yourself: Are you the T& A girl that does T&A shots all the time and that is only thing in your portfolio? How valuable are you to a company as a spokes model if that is all you can do?  Are you the fitness model that is just a model that shoots for covers and that’s it? Or are you somebody that is a triple threat that is on covers, write articles and can speak well in front of a camera? Out of all these that I just mentioned who do you think brings more value to a company as a spokes model. Is it the T&A girl that only has a portfolio of T&A shots? Is it the guy that all he does is covers and he is just a model? Or is it the person that is a great model, shoots covers, he or she writes expert articles and also speaks really well in front of a camera. I think it is evident what the answer is in regards to who has the biggest brand and who is able to offer so much more to a company as an endorsed paid spokes model.

Many people say they want to be a working top fitness model but they aren’t willing to do what is necessary to get there. There have been many days particularly over the past 2 years or so where I have averaged about 4 hours of sleep a day trying to think of different ways on how I can succeed in this industry. Questions I would ask myself: How can I make my brand bigger globally? What can I do to land endorsement contracts? How I can land multiple covers a year? What do I need to do develop an international following? These are all questions I posed to myself during those times when I was brainstorming late at night how I can come up in this fitness game.

The most successful fitness models/personalities in the world are not necessarily the most marketable ones they are typically the smarter ones because they have figured out the game and how it works for them and their respective look and physique. When I say successful fitness models I don’t mean the ones that have landed numerous covers and that’s it.  I mean the ones that have landed paid endorsement contracts and have made serious money off of their name and brand.

Always tell yourself that there is always someone better looking with a better body and it is true but understand that not everybody is willing to put in the work because it’s not in everybody’s DNA to do that. I’ve always felt that if I worked as hard as I could at this that I can be just as successful as any person that has ever entered this fitness industry.  I’ve been around some models in this industry that are so marketable and if they had half of my work ethic they would own this industry but unfortunately it’s not in their DNA to put in the hard work and effort.

You are around these people and they say to you, “I want to get a paid contract and I  deserve it”, but they aren’t willing to put in the work to build their brand big enough so they can be offered that. Some of these models don’t understand that being on covers is not enough any more and shooting T&A shots is not enough anymore nor will it do it. You got to do more than that to command those big contracts and be very successful. If you want to be successful at this you have to put in the work. Nobody is going to drop anything or hand you anything. As fit as I am I still have to work my tail off constantly to maintain my place in this industry. I ask you one last time, how bad do you want it?

Check out top fitness model and MusclePharm sponsored athlete Obi Obadike’s article below on when is the best time to do cardio for fat loss.

There have been so many theories by so many different researchers about when is the best time to do cardio and at what stage is the best time that fat loss will be optimized. Is it during the day, evening or night-time? When is it? Many researchers have said doing cardio on an empty stomach doesn’t help to speed up fat loss and some researchers have said that it does. Well a recent research study that was published in Muscle and Fitness Hers a couple of year ago compared the effects of meal timing on the amount of fat and carbohydrates burned and the study found that athletes who perform cardio on an empty stomach get a fat burning boost. When you perform cardio in the morning time your metabolism stays elevated for a period of time after the workout is over.

The study performed two groups of people.  One group did not eat before performing cardiovascular exercise. The other group ate a pre-workout meal. Researchers found that the group that did not a meal burned more fat during their workout than the group who did eat before exercising. This is one study proves that doing cardio on an empty stomach in the morning gives athletes and those trying to lose weight a significant advantage when it comes to burning fat.

In the early morning, levels of muscle and glycogen are lower because of overnight fasting.  Typically this depleted amount of glycogen and lower blood sugar levels are the ideal factors for burning fat. Glycogen if you don’t know is reserved carbohydrates and the body’s primary source of energy and when these levels are low the body moves to the secondary source of energy which is fat.  Another study performed at Kansas State University and published in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise showed that a kilogram of fat was burned sooner when exercise is done in the fasted state in the morning than when it’s done later in the day.

The researchers measured respiratory gas exchange, caloric expenditure and carbohydrate and fatty acid metabolism, and found that the amount of fat burned during aerobic exercise amounted to 67% of the total energy expenditure in the morning after a 12 hour fast. This is much higher than the 50% expenditure achieved when the same exercise was done later in the day or after eating. So that is a second research study that proves that doing morning cardio on an empty stomach will help to burn more fat. I have also implemented this cardio training on an empty stomach in my own personal workout routine when getting super lean and ripped for photo-shoots and it has worked very well for me personally. I know when I performed this and I was trying to lean down from 5 percent to 2 to 3 percent within a two week period I know for a fact that I burned fat very quickly with this method.  I’ve also trained many clients that were trying to lose weight and they have implemented this method and it helped them burn fat rapidly. I would honestly use this trick as a last resort for those last stubborn pounds or stubborn fat.

Top Fitness Model Obi Obadike's Blog On Six Tips To Speed Up Your Metabolism

Check out my fitness blog on 6 tips to speed up your metabolism and accelerate your fat loss for the New Years.

6 Tips To Speed Up Your Metabolism And Accelerate Your Fat Loss

The speed at which the metabolic processes occur is called the metabolic rate. So many different factors contribute to the metabolic rate such as a healthy digestive system, a healthy nervous system and a healthy thyroid gland. Now here are your six top tips to speed up your metabolism and accelerate your fat loss that you can apply to your every day life.

 1) Eat breakfast the very first thing when you wake up in the morning. Your metabolism will get an incredible jump start by doing this.

 2) Eating fruits and vegetables that are high in digestive enzymes will help your body to digest food properly throughout the day. Eating fruit will help to lower your insulin levels and green vegetables have a component called chlorophyll that will help to clean the body of many toxins.

 3) Consume protein daily and your protein intake should be 1 gram of protein per 1 pound of lean muscle. For example if your fat free weight is 113 pounds then you would consume 113 grams of protein. Whey protein is the best protein to take because of how quick it digests through your body.

 4)  Drink tea or coffee. Caffeine gives the metabolism an incredible jump start boost. Anything more than 3 cups of coffee a day would be too excessive and will lead to insomnia and an incredible amount of irritability. Drinking green tea is very important tool and catalyst in weight loss and speeding up your metabolism. It contains a component called epigallocatechin gallate that speeds up the nervous system.

 5) Take Vitamin B complex daily. The vitamin combination helps the body to metabolize your protein, carbs and fats. It also does a great job of supporting a healthy nervous system.

6) Incorporate anaerobic training in your daily routine as it will help you build muscle. Building muscle mass will always increase your metabolic rate.

“How come nobody’s knocking on my door and giving me an endorsement contract? I’ve been on covers, features and I have a world class physique.”  Well this is a statement that comes from many people in the fitness industry who believe they are entitled to an endorsement contract.  The problem with that is they are waiting for someone to drop a contract on their lap unfortunately it just doesn’t happen that way. Nobody and I mean nobody is going to drop a contract in front of your lap regardless of how many covers and features you’ve done you have to chase it. Ask your self this: What differentiates me from every fitness model out there that would make a supplement company want to invest in me?

This fitness industry is all about the hustle and the person that hustles the most will always attain more success than the person that has more talent. One of the hardest things in this industry to do is self-promote and the reason is because of how people will perceive it. We are humans and it is natural for all of us to be concerned how we are perceived by others. Lord knows I used to be concerned about it all the time in the beginning until I realized I can’t control what people think about me and I really honestly stopped caring about what people thought.

I can only do what is right for my career, for my self and for my family.  The only way you are going to develop a following in the industry in the fitness industry is by talking about your self and sharing what you are doing in the industry via the internet. If you have no following or fan-base in the industry there is no way any supplement company or any fitness company in their right mind would invest money not supplements but money in your pocket and give you a contract.

This is the social networking age and every major supplement company is on a social networking site because the internet at this point in time is more powerful than print from a marketing standpoint. Do you need to land 20 covers or more to land a major supplement contract? No you don’t but you do have to create the perception in that decision maker’s eyes that you are everywhere in the industry even if you are not. How do you create the perception? What is the first thing someone will do if they want to find information about you?

The first thing they do is they google your name and I can tell you this that every major supplement or fitness equipment company that is looking to possibly give a contract to a fitness model will do just that. That is how they are going to research what you’ve done. How that perception is created is by making yourself as visible and prominent as you can on the internet whether it be blogging on your website, blogging on some fitness site, blogging on face-book or just talking about what accolades you’ve done via any of the major social networking sites. Once you report something you’ve done in the industry anywhere on the internet it is just about a permanent record there. Imagine being consistent with all of these things I just mentioned for a couple of years. Imagine how much stuff after a couple of years would be about you on the internet and how easy it would be for a supplement company to research what you’ve done. And once they do their research they are like, “WOW he or she is everywhere on google.”

No supplement company or fitness equipment company will ever know what you’ve done if you don’t talk about your self or what you are doing in the industry via the internet. That is really the name of the game and it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been in the industry you still have to do it especially if you still want to be relevant in the industry. The social networking age is where we are at and if you are not to up to date with it I promise you that you will be left behind and you will lose out on a lot of money and a lot of incredible business opportunities that you can make.

If you don’t have a website or face-book account or a blogging account you are almost useless to any supplement that may want to potential sponsor you and I would say you don’t exist. In fact I would advise you not to even try to waste your time try to acquire a sponsorship unless you have all three and have created some decent consistent web traffic to all of those three places. It took me a long time to figure out this whole self-marketing game. I studied and researched a lot of tape on a lot of high profile professional athletes at the peak of their career and some of the marketing they would do before I ventured and applied this self-marketing thing for my own career.

Some of what they did was a little too much for my taste and comfort level but most of them understood the self-marketing game so well and from those efforts they always seem to land the most endorsement contracts and make the most money. At the time everybody said they were the cockiest and most self-absorbed people in the world and then during the latter part of their career or when there career was over they were looked at as marketing geniuses.  It’s pretty funny how that happens sometimes.

There is such a fine line between self-promotion and arrogance. Unfortunately it is so hard for many people to differentiate between the two unless you can really understand the marketing game and how you can apply it to your own career and become successful.  Remember you have to chase the contract it will not chase you. If I hadn’t figured and studied the self-marketing game and applied it to own my career I know for a fact that I wouldn’t have landed any of my contracts and most of the accolades I’ve attained in my career.
